A Look At The Positive Effects Of Video Games

By Stephanie Skinner

Parents are often very concerned for their children. Lifestyles have changed and they now seem to spend a lot of time indoors, instead of in the open air. Fortunately there are also many positive effects of video games, even if it is an indoor activity. A look at some of the benefits may put many anxious minds at ease.

A good aspect is that computer games are inter-active and do not just require mindless watching. In fact, they require a great deal of concentration and thought, if the player is to succeed. This teaches the need to respond to challenges and is much to be preferred to simply watching TV.

A child's reflexes and ability to think quickly are improved by the urge to excel. Keen players learn to respond quickly under pressure. This helps speed up real life response in crisis situations. The continual practice means that it becomes built in as part of the psyche. Their imaginations are also stretched

To perform well, coordination needs to be excellent. This goes with faster reflexes. Practice is the secret to improvement and players certainly are not reluctant to practice.Indulging in competitive gaming can help those who are trying to recover from serious injury which has resulted in some slight problem with these abilities. Fast and accurate typing and reading are also promoted.

Although they can be played against the computer as an opponent, most people prefer to compete against other humans either via the web or on a local network. This helps to develop skills in computers and networking. Skills such as this are very useful in the modern world. The phenomenon where their children are much more conversant with technology is familiar to most adults.

The solution may be not to be overly concerned by the way children are so fascinated by technology. This is part of a natural cycle, where the new generation becomes the master of the things that challenged the previous generation, and will in turn face their own different challenges in adulthood. They could be engaged in far more harmful activities, and the positive effects of video games are providing a platform from which to cope with those new challenges.
