I don't have to tell you that owning something brand new is a very satisfying experience. On the other hand, having problems with something recently purchased can cause the opposite kind of feeling. That is why making an effort to take care of and maintain your netbook is so important. It is so easy to not worry about this right up until you start experiencing problems. But by then, it may be too late. The rest of this article will present some simple tips on caring for your netbook.
1.) Keep it dust free and away from dusty environments. Dust can get under the keys making them stick. While you may have a high tolerance to dust, your netbook does not. So how does dust hurt your machine? If it gets sucked into the fan intake, it can build up inside. Since dust is an excellent insulator (and therefore traps heat), there is the possibility that your machine will run hot which will reduce the life of it's internal components.
2.) Netbooks were meant to be carried around. They are especially convenient for travel. To protect it from bumps, scratches, spilled drinks, rain, and so forth, get a case. Accidents are more likely to happen when you are out and about on buses, trains, and airplanes. Make sure the case fits well and won't cause your netbook to get scratched. Inspect it's inside surface.
3.) Have you ever had a key on your keyboard stick? Having a problem key that requires you to hit it extra hard is annoying and slows down your typing. One trick you can try is to tip your netbook on it's side and quickly press the sticking key in and out. This causes the particle underneath the problem key to dislodge and allows gravity to pull it somewhere else. Make sure there are no other keys downhill from the sticking key. Otherwise the particle may lodge itself under one of them.
4.) Ever notice how some problems seem to come from out of nowhere but are quickly resolved by restarting your computer? This is because your netbook needs to be periodically restarted so that it can go through a self diagnostic to clear out any problems or errors that crop up over time. Some very strange things can happen if you never allow your computer to shut down and restart again. Allowing your computer to go into sleep mode is not the same thing.
People take machines for granted and neglected machines break down. This "rule" isn't set in stone if you make the effort to give your netbook the proper care and maintenance it requires. This will add years to it's life and save you money because you won't have to deal with costly repairs or have to prematurely buy a new computer.
