Devices That Use High Voltage Contactor

By William McDonald

Electrical circuits are started as well as cut off by valves built in electrical devices. Such components vary in the amount of current they can withstand. There are low versus strong power fuses. Notably, a high voltage contactor is widely used for controlling extremely great currents. Numerous devices use this and a few are discussed below.

Connectors have a number of applications. It is paramount to first understand the features of valves before delving into these applications. Contacts have three components. Each of these is designed to perform differently. The first part is known as a coil. Coils are used to power switches on or off. They are coiled to help pass current fast as well as cut it off. Secondly, there is a pole. Poles are suited for transmitting current. Then there are auxiliaries which panel and signals circuit usage.

In huge buildings such as business premises and office apartments, it is common for a large amount of electric power to be used up. In such cases, connectors are used in paneling lighting. This enables power to be controlled from one specific point. Additionally, those valves efficiently supply large currents to such buildings. Latching switches are preferred in big buildings since coils consume a lot of electric energy in those applications.

The other usage is in vacuum contacts. These are specialized switches whose valves are compressed in vacuum containers. During transmission, these valves are pushed by suppressing arcs. They become smaller hence occupy little space than before. This makes it possible to transmit huge currents at the same time. Since switches are internal and need no air, vacuum switches can be used in dirty surroundings such as in mining. This is because they can easily move circuit breakers immersed in oil. Likewise, electric signals are easily broken hence applicable in fast lighting elements.

Thirdly, connectors are a common element of mercury relays. Mercury transmitters utilize liquid mercury in transmitting electric current. They are unique since mercury is stored in a properly sealed bottled with insulated inner surfaces. Insulation makes such contacts suitable for cycling surfaces which are prone to corrosion. These transmitters are however being discouraged because mercury is known to be environmentally hazardous.

Mercury wetted transmitters are another version of mercury controlled switches. However, instead of immersion, contacts are smeared with mercury before being used. Unlike any other great current circuits, this is considered low power. This is because they only operate on strengths below 15 amperes. Other valves operate in higher rechargeable currents.

Another usage is in camshafts also known as transformers. Camshafts are special transmitters that utilize numerous circuits aligned sequentially. Electric magnets would be best, but they cannot be used individually. Switch efficiency in transformers is more improved since electric current may be powered by electric motors or gas cylinders. Initially, camshafts were widely used to speed up electric locomotives.

The last usage is in magnetic starters. Magnetic starters are components used for starting off electric motors. Such devices utilize valves in regulating how much power is transmitted through coils. This way, switches cannot overload at any time. Similarly, they offer automatic breaking in case of power breakage.
