Interesting Games You Can Play On Mac Computers

By Mathew Jonathally

A number of people take great pleasure in playing simulator games on their computers due to the fact that these games enable players to somehow experience things they would otherwise be unable to do in the real world, for example, flying a plane. There are numerous simulation games on the market, some are used generally for entertainment, and others are used to enhance their user's analytical skills or a cost-effective way to continue learning the ropes of operating a certain vehicle outside of an actual training facility. The vehicles in these simulation games can resemble a real one or made from the game developer's imagination. Simulator games involve a variety of tasks, including racing, combat, or solely the experience of driving a certain vehicle. These games usually allow the gamer to experience how it is to ride these vehicles from the point of view of the pilot or driver, but there are also times when a third-person view can be used.

More than a decade ago, getting simulator games or video games generally speaking was close to impossible for Mac owners. While there is no question that Macs are excellent multimedia computers, gaming was never really focused on and the company really fell behind their Windows counterparts when the gaming industry flourished in the 1990s. The good thing is that latest developments to the Mac line have enabled simpler and faster porting of PC games to Macs, and many game developers are even making games that run natively on Mac computers.

Nowadays, one can already have a crack at Mac flight simulators and various other gaming genres. Two of the popular flight simulators on Mac include X-plane and FlightGear. The critically acclaimed Microsoft Flight Simulator X can also be played on Macs but you can only do this in newer models that have Boot Camp installed that permits you to create a partition in your drive and run a Windows OS and applications on your Mac.

The Steam Service from Valve Software also brought an impressive repository of Mac games. To those unfamiliar with the service, Steam is essentially the same to an iTunes store, but mainly for games. Steam has become the favored online store for Mac users who are looking for releases of indie hits, and various gaming genres, from casual games to more hard core ones. Some of the popular games you can get from Steam include Portal and Team Fortress 2 which are also developed by Valve Software. You can also download the well-liked action-role playing game Torchlight for the Mac using the Steam service.

While there is no question that Mac computers are still not the best system for gamers at the moment, it is nice to know that the company is adopting measures to make their computers much more attractive to game enthusiasts.
