By Charles Russell

This is what may happen if your personal information gets stolen; people who seek citizenship in your country may marry you using only your identity document, loans may be taken in your name, and/or your money may get stolen. That is why Office 365 support Minneapolis is important. Everyone is at risk, so it is important for everyone to know how to keep their information safe.

A lost identity document should be reported as soon as possible if not, it might get in the wrong hands. In fact, all documents that have some personal information in them should be guarded at all times. All these should not be thrown away, if they are no longer needed, they should at least be shredded before being thrown away. This way you ll prevent fraudsters and identity thieves a chance to impersonate you.

Digital banking, online shopping, and online applications allow people to put and save their personal information online and/or on their electronic devices like mobile phones and computer desktops. Their information is password encrypted for safety reasons. However, these devices can now save their login credentials (with the owner s permission). People like this feature because it saves them the effort of having to memorize different passwords for different apps and websites.

So, if the devices get stolen or lost, the person who has them will be able to log in because the credentials are saved and they can steal that information. It might be tempting to save credentials on your laptop, but things can go wrong if it gets lost.

Thieves are also getting smarter when technology grows. They now send links and attachments through emails and/or SMS to their targets. These links are created to steal your personal information. So, don t open any suspicious attachment or link and don t share your information through them.

If you have an account with a bank or some other company and someone calls and tells you they are from those companies and they need you to give them your identification number or some other personal information because they are updating something, it might be easier to believe they are telling the truth. But they also might be thieves and fraudsters using other legit companies names to get to you. Don t share anything with them, rather tell them you ll go directly to the company s offices for the update or you ll call the company directly yourself. Or, you can ask them to give you the information they want to update to check if they indeed have your information in the first place.

When using ATMs or paying with a bank card, make sure no one sees your pin. Also, don t carry your green card if you re not going to use it, it might get lost, rather leave it in a safe place. Furthermore, some scammers send people messages telling them they won money for the competitions they didn t enter, avoid them.

It is every individual s responsibility to protect themselves against identity theft and fraud. Other states, however, offer services that put on extra protection against identity and personal information theft.
